Tarika Chowksey is a high-school student at Bombay International School, studying Higher Level Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics AA via her rigorous IBDP curriculum; with a growing academic focus on materials science, sustainability, agriculture and water. Her interest in these areas has developed through extensive research, including her work with Apcotex on sustainable polymer coatings for gloves, her research at the University of Pennsylvania’s SMART Lab exploring nanomaterials and nanofibers, and her ongoing research into a nano-based seed coating for sustainable agriculture in India.
Beyond research, Tarika founded her school’s Climate Action Club, where she leads discussions and activities around environmental challenges and practical sustainability, while also serving as her school’s Communications Secretary and Social Awareness Prefect.
Her curiosity extends beyond academics: she trains in piano and vocals, develops her public-speaking skills, and is an advanced certified PADI scuba diver, experiences that have taken her from understanding materials at a microscopic level to observing environmental challenges firsthand.
Jal Bandhan brings these interests together - combining her passion for chemistry and engineering with her commitment to sustainability and her growing focus on agriculture and water. Through the initiative, she hopes to build a stronger ‘bandhan’ (relationship) between science, water, and the communities that depend on both.
